Some of my friends from AALA forwarded me the following email; we need to act fast and we need to act THIS WEEKEND:
Dear AALA members and alumni,
As you know, we have highlighted numerous times in Update the need for elementary schools to retain plant managers. This issue is extremely important to elementary principals who are responsible for the safety and well-being of students and staff members on a daily basis. Following is the language of the Safe and Clean Schools Resolution being brought by Dr. Richard Vladovic, Marguerite LaMotte(w00t! GO MUD!) and Steve Zimmer to the Board on Tuesday October 12, 2010:
Dr. Richard Vladovic, Marguerite LaMotte, Steve Zimmer Safe and Clean Schools Resolution (Waiver of Board Rule 72)
WHEREAS, The Board of Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is committed to keeping our schools safe, clean, and secure during the school day;
WHEREAS, the current budget scenario has forced the District to make drastic cuts causing safety and supervisorial concerns among others at school sites;
WHEREAS, the Plant Manager at an elementary school site is integral to keeping our schools safe, clean, and secure during the school day;
RESOLVED, that the position of Plant Manager be restored at all elementary school sites for the 2010-11 school year and be paid for by stimulus money and other revenue enhancements.
We are requesting your support by communicating via email or phone to one or more Board members this weekend in support of this motion. Encourage teachers, parents and community members to do the same. Let Board members know how important plant managers are, how their special training, supervisorial skills and commitment to their respective schools make their services invaluable to students and staff.
Now is the time! Think safety, security and sanitation. Please support this motion.
